I am writing to you today to express my support for the Right
Sized Parking Initiative. Removing parking minimums from the Birmingham Zoning Code
will have immense benefits for the city and its residents, including improving housing
affordability, reducing heat-island effects and water runoff, helping local businesses compete
with chains, and much more. Further, implementing the Right Sized Parking Initiative
is correcting the grave policy mistake that was made when these parking mandates
were implemented, and, by putting the needs of residents ahead those of vehicles,
is enacting Birmingham’s motto of ‘Putting People First.’
